Susan Scott was born in England and spent her formative years living by the sea, not once thinking that it was to become such an important part of her life.
With an Honours Degree in Business Studies from Plymouth, she moved to London and embarked upon a successful career in venture capital, making and managing investments in small to medium sized businesses.
Whilst working in London she became a serving officer with the Royal Naval Reserve. She trained in minesweepers and fast patrol boats and undertook courses in firefighting and sea survival. It was here that she met her husband, Captain John Scott, a chance meeting which was to change her way of life completely.
Since their marriage in 1997, Susan has been lucky enough to accompany her husband on most of his voyages with Holland America Line.
She has also spent three years living in Los Angeles when John was Marine Superintendent with Crystal Cruises. Much of her time there was dedicated to voluntary work with the American Red Cross of Santa Monica and in 2001 she received a recognition award for fund raising & public relations.
Returning to sea in 2002, she spent many happy months on the 'old' Noordam (Noordam III) and then had the opportunity to live in Italy and see the completion of the current ‘Noordam’. It was in Italy that she started to write the second pack, Notes from a ‘Newbuild.’
